How it Works

A laser beam is aimed at the surface that is to be engraved and then traces a pattern onto the surface of the object, which is controlled by a computer system. The center of this laser beam is red hot and produces what is known as the glass effect – which vaporizes the surfaces of the material in an etched pattern that is chosen in the computer software – usually initials or names – but sometimes pictures or logos. Engraving machines may feature a moving laser, or a surface that moves while the laser remains stationary.

Powerful Software
The software that operates most engraving equipment is so powerful that it can engrave an image taken from a photograph onto a thin piece of metal that is crafted into a necklace or other item. The picture is taken with a digital camera, or scanned onto a computer, and then imported into the engraving software, where it is changed to grayscale and then sent to the laser for printing onto the object.
