The murder of Russian Politician Boris Nemstov marks a new low in international affairs between Russia and the West.
Nemstov, who was 55 years old, was shot four times in the back as he crossed the bridge over the Moskva river with a female companion, Ukrainian model Anna Duritskaya. Reports claim there were several gunman involved in the assassination.
US President Barack Obama condemned the killing as a ‘brutal murder’. This was also condemned by Russian President Vladimir Putin as a ‘vile’ act, and vowed to pursue the perpetrators.
Despite there being several lines of inquiry, the finger of suspicion was immediately pointed at Putin by much of the Western media, with Nemstov being an outspoken critic of Putin in recent years, and had planned to hold a protest march in Moscow only days later against the war in Ukraine. He had also intimated in interviews that he feared for his safety, as Putin had a reputation for dispatching with anyone who opposed him.
The Western nation’s policy of conducting a smear campaign in an effort to damage Putin’s reputation, and sway public opinion against him shows no sign of abating. Their desperate attempts are becoming more tiresome and evermore transparent as each day passes.
The American author and historian William Blum news Ukraine outlined the track record of the US in his book ‘Killing Hope’, in which he states, ‘If you flip over the rock of American foreign policy of the past century, this is what crawls out… invasions… bombings… overthrowing governments… assassinating political leaders… perverting elections… manipulating labour unions… manufacturing “news”… death squads… fortune… biological warfare… depleted uranium… drug trafficking… mercenaries… It’s not a pretty picture. It’s enough to give imperialism a bad name’.
However, Putin’s approval ratings in Russia continue to soar, with his average rating frequently hovering around the 85% mark, and has done so for the past year. How much of this is a fabrication of the figures is a matter of conjecture, but will surely be a source of irritation to those who seek to harm him politically.
Boris Nemstov was clearly no longer a threat to Putin, and was very much a peripheral figure in Russian politics, as reflected in the opinion’s of many insiders.
As Dr Paul Craig Roberts, a former Assistant Secretary of the US Treasury and Associate Editor of the Wall Street Journal stated in Global Research, ‘The Western media will repeat endlessly, with no evidence, that Putin had his critic killed’.
We can only speculate but it would be wise to maintain a healthy cynicism in these matters. The Western nations, led by the Obama administration and its cabal, remain the real threat in my view, with their control of the media, and reliance an unsuspecting and often uninformed general public to propagate more lies and deception.
What is certain is that these are dangerous times in world affairs, with the ‘Russian Bear’ being continually prodded and poked, long looked upon with envious eyes as a powerful adversary by the West. The CIA and FBI are highly likely to be forcefully overseeing events in the Ukraine, with the installation of pro-Washington ‘puppet’ President, Petro Poroshenko, whereby, Putin has found it necessary to defend Russia from outside threats, such as the successful defence of the Crimea, and subsequent annexation of the region by democratic means.
